Peace

by Mindful Merchant on December 22, 2010

For anyone in Ottawa and the surrounding region, the sound you heard Friday afternoon were cheers and whoops as my kids got off the bus with their friends.  The Christmas holidays have begun!

A backpack full of art

I am cheering too.  My husband and I have vacation days and look forward to spending time with family and friends.  Our kids are counting down the hours until guests arrive from out of town.  We are going to bake, toboggan, skate, craft it up, cook, dine and party like its 1999.  (In addition, use cheesy phrases when appropriate!)

Baking and eating

For those celebrating I wish you…

Happy Kwanza!

Merry Christmas!

And a happy, healthy New Year to  you!

Best wishes for 2011!

According to the Stanford Recycling Centre, Americans throw away 25% more trash during the Christmas holidays than any other time of the year.  This amounts to an estimated 25 million tons of extra garbage.  I cannot find a current Canadian statistic, but I imagine we have similar practices.  A green reminder to try to recycle and compost everything possible this holiday season and be mindful of what we put out on the curb.

I am going to unplug my computer until after Christmas and have a tiny social media fast.  Never done it before, and frankly, I am not sure it will be easy.  However, try it I shall!   Will check back with you in a week or so…
