I am so excited about my first interview with Schmutzie, founder and co-ordinator of the Canadian Weblog Awards. It was a wonderful and surprising experience, having to articulate the story behind this blog, what motivates me, topic ideas etc.. I say surprising because some questions I never gave much thought or consideration before.
I must give props to my friend, photographer and fellow blogger, Sara McConnell. She helped me overcome my fear discomfort to being photographed, and obliged my panicked plea “Help me, I need some photos for my CWA interview!!!”
Sara also introduced me to Mer Bleue, a stunning 3500 hectare protected NCC wetland. Located in eastern outskirts of Ottawa, this unique bog is home to moose, beavers (see photo below), foxes, cyotes, deer and wildlife galore. Its ecosystem is more like the arctic than the Ottawa Valley. We will definitely explore that trail system again.
Nominations for the 2011 CWA’s are now open. It is a wonderful opportunity to shine a light on some of your favourite Canadian blogs. I just nominated some of mine and I hope they will gain more readers and receive recognition for their creativity and talent.
Once again, big thanks for reading along.

It was a great inteview, and Sara did a fabulous job on the photos. You must be very proud,
Thanks Denise, I’m kind of shocked by the whole thing. lol Yes, Sara’s photos are fantastic. I’m going to have her take family photos this spring.
I can’t wait to read it!
Thanks.
I linked the interview at the top of the post – click on “my first interview” and it should take you there.
Well, pleased to “meet” you Laura. I read your interview. It was very well written. I once visited Mer Bleue in summer and almost died of dehydration. I cycled there and then walked the entire route and ran out of drinking water long before I got out. Plus I was hounded by horseflies. Still, it was a lovely place to visit. Your photos make it look like a great winter destination too.
Now that you mention it, a bog would be a haven for flying insects and bugs. Our visit with gently falling snow made it a bug-free pleasure. lol Will consider that this spring, thanks for the tip and the lovely comments LGS.
This is a great interview Laura, and beautiful pictures from Sara! Congratulations again – so well deserved!
Thanks Finola for the kind words and your help and advice about writing and blog topics.
Great interview and beautiful pictures, Laura! Also, I love that you jot ideas down in a notebook! Glad I’m not the only “weirdo” getting strange looks in public.
Are you a note taker too? Kindred spirits perhaps? lol. Thanks Andrea
You know how people claim they’d be lost without their Blackberry/iPhone? Well, I’d be lost without my notebook. Each book or film that has been suggested to me, every blog post idea I’ve come up with, every DIY gift idea I’ve pondered at the wrong time of year, each complicated set of directions to someone’s home, every list of things that could go in a list, it’s all in there. And this one’s been with me for over three years now!
Great pictures!!!
Hi Hope! Thank you.
Sara McConnell can even make beaver damage look great. lol
Yeah! It’s out – congrats! Great interview & photos. Love the idea of taking them at Mer Bleue.
Gorgeous!
