When I first read the article, I almost skipped the video. I came across it while catching up on my reading over at Treehugger. As soon as I saw the words ‘flash mob’, I cringed. Perhaps it is just me, but I am a tad weary of the flash mob video. Especially when you add the word recycling, it sounds like a big yawner, doesn’t it?
Well, that was this morning. I shall no longer wrinkle my nose at the video description. I am glad I watched the short video because it is fantastic. Not only does it deliver a great message about recycling, it also has pop ups with interesting statistics about plastic. Worth watching, especially because the ending is brilliant.
I do not know who created this video (Treehugger mentions Holy Kaw). If I’ve got that wrong, please correct me…
Enjoy!

Laura,
This video was a joy to watch. May I pinch it for my own blog? As you say, it brought the message about plastics and recycling in such an imaginative and positive way. This deserves to go viral.
Absolutely! Please share away LGS.
Great video that I shared with the kids. They LOVED it. Thanks.
Glad they liked it LC.
love it! thanks for sharing!!
Cute! But where’s my cheering mob when I pick up trash in the ‘hood each Spring (and other times)? Actually, when I am out there, I sometimes get one person nodding politely at me and that makes it extra worth while. Not sure I could take a whole mob!
I think I would faint if that were me in the video. lol I think we’d all be waay more productive if we had hundreds cheering with inspirational music too!
What if no one ever picked it up?! Would the janitor have gotten the ovation for doing her/his job?! Yikes! That was a risk ~ but an awesome one! That poor woman, though… She handled it beautifully, didn’t she? Thanks for sharing!
I wonder how long they waited until she picked it up. Yes, she handled it so well…it could have gone many different ways.
That video really moved me. I actually have tears in my eyes. Such a simple act, yet so powerful because it only takes one person to do what tens/hundreds of others didn’t do. Would you believe that when I pick up empty bottles on public transit, I wait until nobody’s looking because I’m worried that strangers might think I’m weird? From this day on, no more. I’ll start doing it with as many people around me as possible. We need to start setting a good example.
This is definitely going on my blog.
By the way, the credits mention the show “testé sur des humains” on TVA, which is entering its second season on April 4th: http://testesurdeshumains.ca/ Sounds interesting!
Glad you found it moving too Andrea. Thanks for pointing out the show…it does sound interesting!
