Tuesday Tidbits

by Mindful Merchant on May 31, 2011

Thought I would share a few tidbits from today’s news that made me go “hmmm”.

1.  World Health Organization has changed its wording about cell phone usage.  Until recently, the WHO stated that studies did not show there were adverse health effects from mobile phone use.  That was until Tuesday in Lyons, France when 31 scientists from 14 countries met at the IARC (International Agency for Research on Cancer) said the available scientific research suggests that mobile phone use may be “possibly carcinogenic”.  Perhaps it is time to consider changing our cell phone habits. Article from the National Post.   I wonder what Health Canada will say about this issue.

2. Check out this article from the Guardian UK.  It begins with “A certain powerful North American country has been brazenly meddling in Europe’s affairs, bullying and twisting arms to advance a corporate agenda on the most pressing environmental issue of our time. A phalanx of its lobbyists has descended on European capitals to covertly scheme with oil companies and menace EU parliamentarians who would dare address climate change.”   Which country is this article about?  It is Canada.

Hmmm…thoughts?

I do not think Canadians understand that internationally, our country’s reputation is rapidly declining. It really concerns me. I wonder if that rude guy that mocked you for your cell phone & children post might retract his comment now? Hmmm…

I could not agree more about our reputation declining. It used to be that Canadians were seen as friendly and respectful… today, the world probably sees us as complacent and therefore complicit! The “I don’t care enough to do anything about it” attitude is a pet peeve of mine when all I hear around me is whining and complaining but I feel like I’m the only person taking action, voting, and voting with my dollar, and keeping up to date on what the government is doing at home and abroad.

That second item in particular is alarming. I worry about our international reputation but I worry more about the damage we are doing by willfully ignoring the environment.

LC – Methinks he will not retract his “despot” comment. :)

Lynn – Agree. Totally.

I thought I already commented on this post. Hmmm…

What I had meant to say was, I am not surprised that this information about cell phones is coming out. Also, way to go on scooping the WHO Laura!

Stephen Harper won’t be happy until he has wrecked not only our country but the rest of the world too!

Sad, sad.
